Making Farrier Blacksmiths in the Heartland
Farrier Blacksmith Course 2017
This winter flew by. Partly because Kelly and I had spent quite a bit of time on the road to warmer regions, it seemed like summer just ended and then our season at Heartland Horseshoeing School had started again. We had done a remodel of the boys section of the bunkhouse over the winter and it was ready for inhabitants.
This year ended up being one of the bigger Farrier Blacksmith Courses, but not everyone that showed up was going to be here for the whole course. We often get folks that can only stay for a few days, and it is great to work with them when and however we can. Almost always, they wish that they were here for more time.
The energy of the students this year is infectious. It seems that we end up with such a great bunch of students every time that getting out of bed is easy. There have been the odd classes over the years that weren’t fun, but this year’s Farrier Blacksmith Course is not one of them.
Everyone was welding by the end of the first day and by the third day we were having competitions that these guys didn’t know they could do. It is so rewarding to see the rapid evolution of students that are willing to work and listen.
